The Ballarat Independent Music Website and Fluxus Records are proud to announce the release and launch of the first ever Ballarat Band Compilation CD "Did Someone Here Say Ballarat?"

A tasty 21 track sampler, showcasing the depth and diversity of original music in Ballarat, Victoria,
Australia.

The CD is being launched on the 30th and 31st of October 1998 at The Bridge Mall Inn, Ballarat, with performances by 16 acts on the CD. Both nights are being broadcast LIVE on Ballarat Internet Television at
http://www.giant.net.au/ratnet

The Ballarat music scene has had a long and colorful career, starting in the 60s with "Sounds Incorporated" having a sizeable hit in the Australian charts to now in the 90s and The Mavis's chart successes. It has constantly evolved in a strange, organic way, to what it is today, a diverse and very active scene of many bands. There has been mention over the years that some sort of musical documentation should occur and the result is this Compilation CD "Did Someone Here Say Ballarat?" 21 bands and artists who had their start and cut some of their musical teeth in that coldest of all Victorian towns, Ballarat. The music emerging from this town has always represented a spirit of place, where people turn to art to enhance and provide meaning to life in one of the coldest environments imaginable. On the CD many styles are featured, from hard rockin R'n B, acoustic ballads, thumping techno, swing-back funk, in your face guitar attacks, grungy melodies, floor thumping techno, lo-fi dub, rockabilly and even blues recorded in a railway carriage! From the new young guns, like Epicure, The Jonsen Engine and Witicism to Ballarat's favorite balladeers, Patrick McCabe, The Dead Salsemen, and Paddy O'Driscoll, to the electronic intensity of Vitamin K, Uncle Fester and Immaculata, "Did Someone Here Say Ballarat?" lays out the state of diversity in the Ballarat music scene, here, now in 1998.
