A domain is the name that is typed in to your browser, usually Internet Explorer or Netscape. Most of the time it has www in front, such as:
www.dw.com.au
The domain is actually dw.com.au. The .au bit designates it as an Australian domain.
You don’t have to have an Australian domain. Anybody may register other types, such as .com. eg friedeggs.com
To register a domain ending in .com.au, you have to be a registered businss with an ABN or CAN.
This does not apply to .com and other domains; it’s a case of first in.
